OverC Clips — installing on a Mac

  1. Double-click "Install OverC Clips.command"

  2. macOS will probably refuse the first time, saying the file is from an
unidentified developer. That is macOS being careful about anything
downloaded from the internet, not a problem with this file.

On macOS 15 and later there is no right-click shortcut for this --
right-clicking only offers Move to Trash. Do this instead:

        a. double-click the installer, and dismiss the warning
        b. press Command-Space, type Privacy , press Return
        c. scroll down to Security, and click Open Anyway next to the
           message about "Install OverC Clips.command"
        d. double-click the installer again

The Open Anyway button only appears after you have tried to open the
file at least once, so do step (a) before looking for it.

  3. A Terminal window opens and shows what it is doing.

If it stops saying Python is not installed, that is expected on a Mac
that has never had it. Get it free from

         https://www.python.org/downloads/macos/

Take the one called "macOS 64-bit universal2 installer", open it and
click through, then run this installer again.

tells you what to do next. You can close the window.

  4. From then on, start it with the "OverC Clips" icon on your Desktop.
No more warnings -- that one only applies to downloaded files.

It puts a small icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen and
opens the page in your browser. Use that icon to open the page
again, or to stop it. Nothing needs to be left open.

It installs only inside your own account. It never asks for your password
and changes nothing else on the computer. To remove it completely, delete:

    ~/.local/share/overc-clips
the "OverC Clips" icon on your Desktop
